Choosing a 20-foot movie screen
and comfy chairs with cup holders over
the traditional pew and pulpit, Coastal
Community Church launched its church
services in the Muvico Broward 18
Theater on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at
10:15 a.m.
Holding a church service in a movie
theater may seem odd, but Coastal is
actually the latest in a nationwide trend
of progressive churches that meet in
movie theaters in an effort to be more
accessible to the community. “Everyone
goes to movie theaters,” says TJ
McCormick, Coastal’s pastor. “It’s a
comfortable,
non-threatening
environment for people who are curious
about church but would not feel
comfortable enough to set foot in a
traditional building. Instead of bringing
the people to a church, we’re bringing
church to the people. We want to make
it hard for people to go to Hell by making
it easy for them to go to church.”
McCormick says that several area
locations were considered, but that the
Muvico Broward 18 Theater offered the
best atmosphere for the kind of church
he envisioned. “Not only do we have the
most comfortable church seats around,
but they have cup holders, too!” he says.
At Coastal, the hope is that you will
be encouraged by their passionate, full-
band worship team and that the relevant,
creative message will challenge and
empower you. Coastal is very modern,
casual, upbeat and fun, but most
importantly, is a Christ-centered church.
Coastal revolves around a central theme
of “Loving God, Loving People, and
Showing It.”
The church is currently going
through a series on making this year
“Anything, But Ordinary,” a topic of
interest to people who want their life to
be different this year.
Coastal Community Church meets
Sundays at 10:15 a.m. at the Muvico
Broward 18 Theater, located at the
intersection of North Federal Highway and
Copans
Road
(2315 North Federal Highway) in Pompano
Beach. Additional information can be
